SMS road show at Legon
April 15, 2008
The first of the SMS roadshows kicked off to an
early start at legon with mic checks cleared before
6am. As the sun arose, the final Prep for the show
was completed. Lead technician mohammed Awal
gave the green light for the show to get on the runway.
The objective of the show was to give students
an opportunity to express what issues were key
to them ahead of the 2008 Polls. Students begun
converging at the SRC courtyard even before the
show got underway.
Deputy minister for communication …………. Is
briefed by his advisors before he gets on the show
to answer questions on ICT development in Ghana.
Its 6:20am, keeping an eye on the work by
Technicians to improve sound quality, SMS Host
Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah welcomes the nation to
Legon and gets the show underway.
More students take their seats as kojo outlines
the agenda for the show. It includes an exclusive
interview with Bole / Bamboi MP John Mahama
who was confirmed the day before as running
mate to the NDC’s Prof Mills.
The sun gets warmer……..Prince scrolls through
txts and mails as Kojo enquires from the students,
“whats on your minds this morning?”
From all over the world, listeners express their
expectations of the day’s show by txt and e-mail:
“Adwoa Asante in Belgium: I expect the student’s
of legon (My Alma Mata) to articulate their
positions on education, security and employment.
And to do it in a manner that makes us all proud
of our future leaders.”
“I think the Politicians should focus some more
on health and security. This government has done
well in these areas, but they should be a new
mandate to do more.”
“Mr. Deputy minister, what do you make of the
state of ICT in Ghana today, 7yrs after your
government came to power.”
The ICT discussion proceeds smoothly as more
students sneak into the courtyard from lectures.
Kojo Interacts with students during the break
“The Politicians are not focusing on the real
issues. They are making a lot of noise accusing
each other. What I’m looking for, is that one
Politician who explains to me how he would create
jobs, provide better security and improve the lot
of women.”
More students express their thoughts….

the morning show together with other execs of
the SRC. Dr Ahiawodor seated on the far right.
“One key issue for this election should be the
funding of tertiary education. We want to hear
the Politicians come up with their various
Positions on this.”
“Skills transfer should be the major peg for this
election.”Express yourself man!
He really had his say
