SMS Gets ready for energy Debate

April 21, 2008

JOYfm’s Super Morning Show will this week host an energy debate between the four leading political parties to explore their various plans to provide sustainable energy for Ghana in the future.

The show seeks to identify which Political party has the most comprehensive and viable plan to address Ghana’s energy needs.

The KNUST last week organized an energy forum at which Presidential candidates explained their Party’s positions on how to provide sustainable energy for the country.

While the idea of the forum has been hailed by many, some have criticized it for not allowing the various candidates to engage one another in debating their positions. Other say the forum was also not extensively covered in the media, thereby making it difficult for many Ghanaians to follow the details of the plans advanced by each candidate.

SMS producer Emmanuel Kofi Ansah say’s this week’s show is aimed at bringing the various parties together to explain their positions as presented at the KNUST forum. It would also give the parties an opportunity to assess each other’s programme as well as provide them with a platform that would give wider coverage to their programmes.

The various campaign advisors would be represented by their energy advisors while energy and governance experts assist SMS host Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah in analyzing the various plans.

The Super Morning Show has in recent months been calling on Politicians to focus their campaign for election 2008 on development issues. Show producers say this week’s show is in line with that development campaign.

Listen to the Super Morning Show from 6:00am every weekday for a great start to a great day.

It is a very good idea for joyfm trying to hold our politicians to issues that are very important to ghanaians. I hope that there will be subsequent debates where the politicians will be dealing with issues on areas like, education, water, employment, proper economic development, corruption and many more. Please Kojo can we get access to the full documents produced by the various parties on the energy debate for public scrutiny? This is how we can hold them to provide what they have said by refering them to it. Thanks

Kojo, i am trying to believe that Allan Kyeremateng is matured and independent minded before coming forward to become the flag bearer of the NPP. If my conviction about him is true, then i urge him not to return to the NPP because any return move by him to the NPP will be like vomitting and licking it back. He will dent his image as a politician forever and the support he will command will equally shrink. I therefore implore that he should maintain that definite stand and move to the new party which arms are wide open to receive him. The intimidation is even affecting me as a student and i know it is going to continue. I wish him well and will support him if he leads the new Kumasi party.

I think this idea is very good. judging from your critical analysis of issues i believe that it will afford us the opportunity to get comprehensive insight into what the various politicians have for us. I only propose that we get the opportunity to make contributions and remarks to thier policies.

    Thanx Man

Kojo am listening to you now and I must say the other political parties have clearly made me aware that they have nothing for us as Ghanaian if they can’t show up for debate. Always the NDC and the NPP man I was hoping to hear something new.

Any way Kojo so far what they are saying does not make any sense to the ordinary Ghanaian on the street, kojo they should speak in plain terms. And stop all this techie terms and grammar.

This debate is good but Kwabena Agyepong is too arrogant. He is speaking as if he owns Ghana! I can feel his body language in the stadio. He should tone down small.

For me i think the way forward for our dear country to be sustainable in our energy supply is to have a combination of both renewable and non-renewable source.
In the medium term the hinterlands could be provided by solar and wind sources where the government would provide policies to enhance that.
Also our long term appproach should be towards looking at nuclear and hydroelectric sources. eg the new Bui
    dam
Lastly our research institutions should be funded to conduct serious research into bio-fuels as this immensely help us reach our GDP target of $1000. God bless Ghana.

Kojo just keep doing what you do best. I wish you all the best in whatever you do. I really admire you and the way you carry yourself. You are a great asset to Ghana.

Hi kojo, I listened to the debate on your morning show and I wish to make correction on an ill-informed view popularly held in Ghana. Mr Tsikatah got it wrong when he compared radioactive nuclear waste with domestic and industrial waste. The two are far apart. I hear people especially so called social commentators make comments to this effect. Nuclear waste is safely managed than any kind of waste. The whole fuel assemblage of a 2GW(e) Nuclear Power Plant can be fitted in the boot of your car. Fuel refill period is 3-5 years for a Nuclear Power Plant depending on the design of the manufacture. So for 50 years a 2GW(e) Nuclear Power Plant waste will be just as the size of a studio of Joy fm. Nuclear waste, though harmful and dangerous if not properly handle come in very small quantity. For instance, there are industries that are using radioactive materials and therefore generate nuclear waste today as we speak in Ghana. But because just a little nuclear fuel is required to be cladded with a non nuclear material and used we do not hear of nuclear waste in Ghana today .If Ghana is to sign on nuclear option, nuclear waste generated can be disposed off in two ways: Geological burial or recycling. And now, this waste talked about is not as it is perceived. It is not as the domestic or industrial waste.Nuclear waste often shipped to manufactures who buy it at high cost for recycling.

i had wanted you to ask the NDC man weather their government will
    1. Reduce Fuel Prises
    2. Reduce Electricity and water Tariffs
Just yes and no will do.

    Thanks

    INTIMIDATION AND ALIENATION GALORE

Alan’s exit from the NPP was impeccable. The defeat and demise is spilling over the NPP. They have invariably proclaimed that, they are Democrats. And that, the NDC is not a Democratic party.

Nevertheless, it has manifested that Nana Akuffo Addo’s Democratic Credentials are extremely doubtful and therefore it will be problematical for the NPP to maintain its primacy in this year elections. Because, Nana Akuffo Addo is not a unifying force.

The people of Ghana want a leader with spirit of reverent.

Professor Mills and the NDC will assume Governance of this nation come January 7, 2009.

    Have a colourful day.

Prof.Attah Mills i don’t how to describe you. the word “Humility “is okay for you
