Is the Ghana Police Service up to the task?

May 20, 2008

In recent months the Ghana Police service has come under a lot of fire for failing to deliver the services that the Ghanaian society requires. While reports of armed robbery, petty theft and general lawlessness increase, the Police officials contend that they are increasing getting better at dealing with the situation.

There are also worrying reports of Police personnel selling arms to civilians in Bawku, Police escort for narcotics gangs, Loss of cocaine exhibits at the Police headquarters and the countless cases of Police officers extorting monies from citizens.

With the increasing sophistication of criminals and the defence of the Police that they are doing their best, we ask ……………………….

Is the Ghana Police Serve up to the task?

    That is a Big no.
Its is very sad that the DSP and his police force are in self denial. Just looking at my situation, I lost two family members due to lawlessness in the country. My Cousin was butchered to death for refusing to give up his cellphone. My grandfather was shot to death by armed robbers. NOBODY has been brought to book with all the loads of evidences. The suspected armed robbers are still walking around in the neighborhood with all the reports that we have made to the police. And he sit there an say the police are doing their job. I pray nothing like this happens to him before he wakes up and realize the state the country is in.

    God Help Us!!!

Yes, the Police are up to the task, if I look back this present Government has done a lot to get them protect and provide the appropraite service, but there is still more to be done. Its time we give maximum support and respect to the police and also partner them to provide protection services for us all. If we always frown on their short-comings when there are ineffective structures in place to guide their own conduct and the service they have to provide for us, then they can’t be up for the tasks. We as a nation need to establish how we want our police force to conduct themselves and what resources are needed to help them operate at this level, and we all must make efforts to contribute to this course. So if logistics are required, what are these and how can individuals and organisations contribute to this cause, how can we support them in repairs and maintenance of their vehicles, accommodation and others, and definately they will get there, its just simple.

This is crazy. and damn crazy. A huge NO! Ghana police does know what it is when it comes to doing away with the drug world.

Arise Ghana Arise. Go to Jamaica and you will have a feel of what the drug menace is. Get to Mexico and you will be amazed how people are being eliminated, even the very police personels are being killed by the drug cartel. For Colombia I need not say much about that. We must act and now. The IGP MUST go now. We are indeed sitting on a time bomb!

My borther, I am a policeman but I must tell you that Police Service is not up to the task. But I must blame the present and previous governments about it. What is happing to police service is like a husband given Gh ¢ 0.50 to his wife to prepare meals but expecting a meals of Gh ¢ 10.00. Police service have over the years been neglected. My brother, if I can not sleep in a decent house, how do you espect me to put up my best. If we want to see police put up their best then we should invest in them.

In my opinion, the police are not up to the task of protecting the citizenry. Why do I make this assertion? It is true the police are better equipped now than ten years ago but that is the more reason their services should improve both quantitatively and qualitatively. If what the government says is anything to go by then there has been a lot of investment in the service so why are we not seeing the fruit of our investments? Remember that security is a major issue on the minds of people so they should stop the public relations and get on with what they have to do. If heads have to roll let it be quick and swift to save people from the trauma they go through with armed robbers. How come our law enforcement agencies are heavily involved in drugs and distribution of arms? We need to look people in the face and tell them, in the interest of the nation, to step aside. The police service needs a total overhaul to help reduce the number of bad nuts that have found themselves in the service as a result of improper cross-checking of personnel data, tribalism, favouratism, nepotism and partisanship.
Remember, this is the only police service we have and so we must do all it takes to protect it’s integrity.
Also remember that technology and investments in itself cannot fight crime and social vices. We need competent and qualified men and women to lead and men and women of high integrity to serve this dear nation of ours.
I believe strongly that if we have less investments and more men and women of integrity the police service would perform better than it is doing now. Let us increase the level of investments to the police and at the same time streamline our recruitment and selection processes to enable us separate the chaff from the wheat. This is in the interest of GHANA.
    God bless GHANA.

    QUESTION:

WHY IS THE POLICE ADMINISTRATION HEADED BY PATRICK KWARTENG ACHEAMPONG TRYING VERY HARD TO PROTECT C/SUPT. ALPHONSE ADU AMANKWAA IN THE ON-GOING MISSING COCAINE SAGA?

    ANSWER:

BECAUSE THEY ARE BUDDIES. HE SENT HIM TO HEAD THE ORGANISED CRIME UNIT TO BE SELLING THE COCAINE.

    POSSIBLE OUTCOME:

AFTER FAILING TO PUT THE MISSING COCAINE ON DCOP ASANTE APPEATU, THEY ARE GOING TO GET AKAGBO CONVICTED AND JAILED.

Got something to say?
