ARE YOU SATISFIED WITH THE EC’s EXPLANATION
June 12, 2008
The electoral commission has been explaining the reasons for what has been described as a bloating of the Ashanti regional voters register.
The EC after months of investigation and meetings with representatives of all the parties involved says an operational error which occurred during the summarizing of voter numbers suggested that voter numbers had increased while in actual fact, the numbers and names in the main register remain unchanged.
Political stakeholders who were troubled at the allegation have received the EC’s explanation with mixed responses.
While Political parties are happy the register is intact, many are still wondering how the operational error occurred.
Meanwhile the investigating committee has identified some lapses at the IT department and has made some recommendations to forestall future errors.
Are you satisfied with the explanations of the EC?

Got something to say?

In the first place why is it that only the Ashanti Region alone was detected tohave
its voters register tempered with infact it beats my imagination.
Why not central or Western regions?
Am not satisfied one bit, what kind of explanation is this, do the EC think we are kids. These are mistakes that brings confusion to countries, lets do the right thing then whoever wins nobody would challenged it.
Kojo,
Database is very funny, this things happen all the time, it is very funny and too elementary to be talking about such a normal error. This data redundancy occur when the tables were being set they did not set it up well. We have something called primary key, foreign Key, composite key, unique key used to make records unique and therefore hard to duplicate etc.
Normally, when you use the union key to join the new data to old union and you make a mistake with date of birth, this will not update the old Kojo Oppong Nkrumah with old date of birth, it will create another Kojo Nrumah with a new date of birth.
No code can delete this records because they are not identical.
Database is what caused Arthur Anderson to feed ENRON bad data and we all know what it caused,
What the EC need is a good database developer and database analyst. They need to get their Normalization well.
By the way to get a cheap new system below is a new system don’t allow any lobby to sell you this in millions.
Server that can hold the whole country data of 20 million
PowerEdge M605
2-Socket, Dual-Core Blade Server
Maximum Internal Storage
Up to 300GB2
Starting Price $20,599
Instant Savings $450
Subtotal $20,149
New computers let say 5PC @ the rate of $1000 each.
Software Mysql $2000 with Microsoft Access Enterprise version $3000 as setup desktop software
We need national Data center with less than $30,000 we can have a world class system, the problem here is how to maintain it and have credible Database analyst, Data architect and database developer to take care of it. With this world class system everybody in Ghana will get thier data from this center.
Do not allow any lobbyist to come and fool you to take away your money. by the way Atta mills has the men to do this work.
The EC is the only body mandated by the constitution to supervise election in this country and therefore Ghanaians should give them all the support needed to organise election 08 sucessfully. The so called political pandits should give us a break, in whatever we do lets consider Ghana first. Mr Gyan keep up the good work
My problem of this whole thing is with Nana Ntow. He spoke wisely but what does he mean by
“I am going to speak to EC”
And when this problem happen he said it on Air “that he is on his way to meet with EC chairman”.
As a ruling political party chairman don’t you think there is conflict of interest here. You cannot speak to the EC Mr with all due respect. You can do that on private matters but not on national issue.
Thank you
Kojo,
There is one thing I don’t quite get. Is the EC saying that the information on the hard copy is not what the CD ROM given to the NDC and the GCPP contains? How come and how possible is this?
I think Ghanaians need a more convincing explanations.
I’m not satisfied not even a bit!
The EC has some dubious agenda . How comes the same people deniel the allegation at first but latter came out to says the register was not bloated but technical mis takes. In fact i personally did’nt agree with a sentence in the EC’s explanation let alone the whole thing. The EC is in for something that would favour
one party and deniel another party it’s victory.
NDC OPEN YOUR EYES WELL WELL.
Are you satisfied with the EC’s explanation on how the voters register got bloated?
Joy FM must be very careful on what they put on the net and also the type of questions they ask?
You want patrons to indicate whether or not they are satisfied with the EC’s explanation on how the voters register got bloated?
NOW JOY FM, who or where has it been established that the voters register is bloated?
This is not the sort of question to ask about that issue.
thank you
