Ghanaian Government blows more than $1.4m on gold medals..One

One More reason Why Foreign Aid stinks…
Ghanaian Government blows more than $1.4m on gold medals..
Only in Africa will prominence be placed on luxurious items as
Presidential Jets, palaces, gold-plated cars and medallions for
officialdom at the expense of public infrastructure and open sewers that
spread disease.
To think that gold medals for supposedly national heroes (when in actual
fact, the economy stagnates) in a ‘poor’ country will cost US $ 1.5
million can’t be described as modest. Never mind that Ghana’s President
can purchase two Presidential jets under dodgy circumstances, completely
shutting our the country’s Parliament from the initial purchasing
arrangements.
However, be sure that at the next available photo-opportunity with G-8
leaders we’ll be begging for more Aid dollars.
If only these Aid givers knew…
Meanwhile in an interview with the BBC, IMANI’s Bright Simons said “If the
[National Gold Awards]process had succeeded in building a lot of
reconciliation across the political spectrum, it would have been worth
it,” he added.
Mr Simons said the intention was honourable, but suggested the governing
New Patriotic Party (NPP), could have managed the event better - by
including members from across the political divide in an independent
awards committee.”
So what do you think?

Got something to say?

Nana Addo Akuffo is a failure.Proff we love u becouse u are only Professor to govern Ghana.u are great
What else can happen in country where everything can be shamefully justified by those in power and condemned by the opposition. To me whether oppostion or in government, common sense should be the measure. Are we not aware of the numerous challenges in the country from poor roads and lack of properly equppied hosptals? What about lack of standards in doing things in Ghana. That anybony at all can get up and have his way in anything from building a house in water ways to squatting and selling on pavements. Why do we lack the zeal to stop these things. All because one man wants to satisfy his ambition so at the expence of the nation, the few will be allowed to do the wrong thing. Think of the amount we spent in celenrating our so called 50th anniversary, could’t we have done one massive project to give the Ghanaian some sense of pride about his country. Go to korle bu, see for yourself what we call a health centre. Who says we can’t have the most sophistacted equipments in our hospitals. Why spend 1.5mil dollars on some 250 people whiles we live in dirt and dust filled atmosphere. What is wrong with our leaders. I pray and hope that a time will come where we will think and believe that we can enjoy the best of thnigs in life. It is so strange, that these same leaders at the slightest opportunity, wants to refer to US or Uk for standards but the same people refuse to act to make sure we do like the US and the Uk homo sapiens. Come to think of the fact that the medals were ordered from abroad. Oh my God….WHAT IS WROG WITH US. we mine the gold, there are perfect goldsmiths in this country from KNUST and from the way side. Yet we go pay some white guy somewhere to give us a piece of our own gold at such an exhorbitant rate. Oh just imagine what this amount woulod have done to the local jewelers? Apart from boosting their business and creating jobs, the get prominenece and then we can say we believe in Ghana. We can’t allow our own to manufacture medals so where is the believe. Ghana, Ghana, Ghana WAKE UP. The white man continuesly laughs and makes fun of us. Don’t let us decieve ourselves, they do not respected us and that is a fact. God help us.
lets learn to set our priorities straight. we blow such huge sums and walk cup in hand outside the country begging for arms. may be its our talent to beg for arms from abroad and proudly squander it without rendering any accounts to anyone. after all we did not work for such monies. GOD SAVE MOTHER GHANA.
kojo i think the entire award this year is just an unnecessary cost to the nation, ahh as at today not every community have electricity left alone water. the country we have serious problem that needs to be tackled and not use the little resources for awards. i was even shocked at the people who were awarded. a comedian who has never even donated a t-shirt to an orphanage or done any thing for his community was given an award because he is an actor, no no no, Ghana is sick
kojo what do i say, if people are hungry and they donot have meaning work doing and the presodent remarks that whoever is saying he does not have money in his or pocket is lay;then the only thing left for them to do is to also follow the money distributing party to also have a share of the money, however whether bussing peiple to rally grounds would automatically trasnlate into votes,we would see that on the dec 7 since the those distributing the money for the purpose of enhancing their sunk immages by portraying huge crowed will be dertermine on that
HOW TO STOP VIOLENCE IN OUR POLITICS
WE CAN ORGANISE PEACEFUL ELECTION IN THIS COUNTRY BY PUTTING IN PLACE A SYSTEM THAT WILL ALWAYS DISCOURAGE TE RULING PARRTY FROM ABUSINGH INCUMBENCY. THIS CAN BE ACHIEVED BY PROHIBITING THE INCUMBENT GOVERNMEN FROM TAKING PART IN AN IMPENDING ELECTION.
THIS WILL REMOVE ANY SUSPICION IN THE OPPOSITION, AND TO ENSURE THAT THE PARTY IN POWER DOES NOT FORM ANY PARTY TO CONTEST ON IT BEHALF, WE SHOULD BAN THE FORMATION OF POLITICAL PARTIES AFTER A CERTAIN GIVEN TIME.
HOW CAN WE EXPECT THE JUCICIARY AND THE SECURITY AGENCIES TO BE FAIR IN AN ELECTION IN WHICH THE ONE WHO APPOINTED THE HEADS OF THESE INSTITUTIONS HAVE SPECIAL INTEREST.
I THINK IT IS HIGH TIME WE DEVELOP AN ELECTORAL OR DEMOCRATIC SYSTEM TAKING OUR SOCIO-ECONOMIC AND POLITICAL SITUATION INTO CONSIDRERATION. WE ARE IN AN ENVIORONMENT WHERE PARTIES IN POWER DUE TO THEIR CORRUPT PRACTICES ARE ALWAYS ADAMANT TO LEAVE OFFICE AND TO ASK SUCH PEOPLE TO BE REFEREES IN A GAME THEY ARE TAKING PART DOES NOT MAKE SENSE TO ME. TAKE FOR EXAMPLE THE CASE IN WHICH THE GUSHIEGU DISTRICT CHIEF EXECUTIVE HAS BEEN ACCUSED AS MASTERMINDING THE SHOOTING AND THE BURNING OF HOUSES YET THIS SAME PERSON IS SUPPOSE TO BE THE CHAIRMAN OF THE DISTRICT SECURITY COUNCIL.
APART FROM ENSURING FREE AND FAIR ELECTION THIS SYSTEM WILL REDUCE CORRUPTION DRASTICALY AS THE PEOPLE IN POWER WILL KNOW THAT WHATEVER HAPPENS THEY WILL LEAVE POWER IN AN UPCOMING ELECTION.
AGAIN THE GOVERNMENT WILL TAKE DECISIONS THAT MAKE ECONOMIC SENSE RATHER THAN POLITICAL SENSE LIKE CLEARING STREETS OFF HAWKERS AND PULLING DOWN BUILDINGS IN WATERWAYS.
I KNOW THE POLITICIANS WILL NOT ACCETP THIS SYSTEM BUT IS UP TO US THE CITIZENRY TO DECIDE WHAT WE WANT AND FORCE THEM TO ACCEPT IT.
