Will the NPP’s Large Crowds translate into votes?
July 14, 2008
The sizeable turnout of the NPP rally held at Kasoa recently has drawn a lot of comments from across the Political divide. Party functionaries say the large crowd made up of party supporters who voluntarily attended the rally, is a sign of the NPPs strength in numbers ahead of the December Polls.
But former Party General Secretary Dan Botwe called on the crowds to translate their presence into votes for the party. “It is meaningless if you all turn up here and fail to register and vote” he said.
Critics of the government however say the crowds were hired and bused to the Rally grounds. PNC flag bearer Edward Mahamah says the crowds were rented by the ruling party and meant nothing to the party’s fortune. He told JOYfm’s Super Morning Show that the hiring of the crowds had “reduced Ghanaians to beggars”
NPP officials however say these allegations are unfounded and just show that the Party is ready for victory.
Do you think the NPP’s crowds would translate into votes?

Got something to say?

large crowd means nothing.lets wait and see wether the crowd can win election.
The large crowd will definately translet into vote come December 2008.
what about the numerous political stories, either solicited or unsolicited……they could win the election for the candidates as well.(heheheh)…..n guess what, its all the media doin’. so at least if they want us to vote on issues, den we need to have the issues, n not solicited stories to a particular candidate’s gain, this way , tribal or what ever won’t come to play again. God bless the media of ghana n God bless our country. Pls extend a birthday dedication to Amanda of SIC, from Gottfried

ITS SAD TO KNOW THAT THIS GREAT MAN OF THE LAND HAS PASSED ON. HE IS A MAN WHO PAID HIS MORE THAN HIS FAIR SHARE OF HIS DUES TOWARDS THE DEVELOPMENT OF OUR COUNTRY IN A WAY THAT AMAZED MANY INCLUDING ME. WHY THIS MAN WAS NOT AS PARTISAN AS OTHER SPEAKERS AND POLITICIANS REALLY FASCINATES ME TILL THIS DAY. THOSE CLOSE TO HIM ALSO ATEST TO HIM BEING A DISCIPLINARIAN AND A PRINCIPLED MAN. HOPE WE WILL GIVE HIM A FITTING TRIBUTE BY TAKING A SERIOUS LOOK AT HIS L
I REMEMBER HIS SPEECH ON THE NEED FOR US TO AMEND THE CONSTITUTION TO REDUCE THE POWER VESTED IN THE EXECUTIVE ARM OF GOVERNMENT. IT WAS AND STILL IS AN IMPORTANT ISSUE WE NEED TO LOOK AT AS A NATION. HOPE WE WILL HIM THE BEST TRIBUTE BY HAVING A DAY TO EXTOL HIS VIRTUES, ACHIEVEMENTS, PRINCIPLES AND THE IDEALS HE PREACHED THROUGH PUBLIC LECTURES BY INSTITUTING A PUBLIC LECTURE IN HIS HONOUR.
PETER ALA ADJETEY, MAY THE GOOD LORD KEEP YOU IN HIS BOSOM TILL WE MEET AGAIN ON THAT GLORIOUS DAY! I SALUTE YOU!!
Ghana has indeed lost a great man. May God keep Mr. Adjetey’s soul.
Some of us have became soo “broke” we cant afford to pay and go for any source of entertainment so where there is a sound of music we quickly go to dance the pressure on us away for that brief moment. Others will also wear the party tee shirt, join the fun for “noko feo” for the day. This is what NPP have been reduced us to, it could also be a send off for the NPP forever. It can never translate into votes. God save us from NPP’s harvesting.
Kojo, you should not lose sight of the fact that even if the so called smaller opposition parties like CPP organnized a rally to outdoor it presidentially candidate and all parliamentary candidates nation wide will definetely pool the same crowd.so the noise about translating to vote is ignorance.NDC all the way and the Prof.and the fine gentlman should know that we the unemployed are solidly behind them.We love NDC
my friend were given 5.00 to go there, and if all of their mps whit support are the one we saw ,then am afriad that crowd will not win the vote for them.
Large crowds?!
Hmmm! large crowds do they really translate into VOTES?
Lets not be caught in this web of naivity and insensivity, politics as it is has a way of going through the motions and variable emotions. Knowing fully well that politics definitely deals with numbers and people, it will be rather unfortunate to cast a dice and expect TWO possible outcomes.
As far as i am concerned, this is NOT a question to be asked? Else, Please ask Gbedema, etc……
Nana ‘O’ Nana ‘O’ All the Way. When he speaks wisdom is at work. The the best man for Ghana. He is just different from the rest. I love that man. Can’t wait to make him President of Ghana. No coward should rule Ghana. Check his style and level of his confidence is super. Nana ‘o’ Nana ‘o’ all the way to the top.
Never Never again should we make the unforgivable mistake of handing power to Murderers, wicked people like the NDC. Never again Ghanaians. Pray Against it and prevent them with your last strength.
Well, I also share the view that the ELEPHANT is on the to its permenant aboud (the bush). Fare thee well the King of the Bush.
I would have gone there if offered money, T Shirt and transportation as
was the case with a large no. of the crowd, but if NNP need just a vote to win election 2008, the should’nt count on mine , i rather commite sucide than vote for
VAMPIERS !!!!!!
RE; ERIC
Eric is a typical desperate NPP supporter who fears the fate
of his corrupt partiy memmbers if they loose power, becous they have set a very
bad presedent. Jailing noble citizens like Tsatsu and awarding nonperformers
like IC quaye and liers like Kwamena Bartels.
none can be compared to the danqua busia tradition ,this massive crowd shows how the npp will win this election .but for the sake of democracy i will advice NDC to context otherwise they should not.it`s onetouch ,naa NANA naa SHUOOO………………
Ghanaians, stop pretending as if nothing is happening to you.People who are making foolish niose about NDC are those who drive in big cars, leave in big house ect. What about you and i?let us leave NPP to go in peace whiles our lovely NDC,a party with God fearing people rule us in the next election.
how can you use crowd to justify the coming election! do you think we are still kids in any case there is a saying that an empty barrel make the most noise so let the npp’s be fool about the crowd as we the thinking masses who are suffering do our own thing in December for agya Ata to take us to the promising land.NDC no size
from sika - kumasi
Yes, the crowd pulled by NPP will definately be translated into votes for the Party. The members of opposition parties on this net are simply jealous and shaken to the core, hence the lame excuses they are advancing for the crowd. If you(opposition) can be given only 5-10 cedis EACH and bused to an “enemy’s” rally to boost ‘the enemy’s’ appeal and chances, then I believe the opposition is the most useless and brainless on this planet. Since I believe we have wise opposition (NDC,PNC,CPP)in Ghana,I believe with all my heart that the over 800,000-1000000 people who attended the NPP-outdooring rally are real members of the NPP party and come December,7 most about 99% will vote for NPP. What is wrong with the NPP party giving her members 5-10 cedis and busing them to a party programme ? It simply makes logical sense for the party to make it possible for her grassroot members to be part of Party activities. The childish excuses given by Edward Mahama is an example of a bitter presidential candidate(sour grapes) who has for the past 16 years done whatever he could possibly do to attract Ghanaian-interest but the presidency has continue to remain illusional, hence he is taking it on the ruling NPP. The NDC members are so dejected and frustrated because they know the die is cast as far as election 2008 is concerned, since the NPP will win hands down .This is the reason why the NDC have uped their smear campaign against Ghana’s next president and the next NPP government. The writings are on the wall, last sunday’s NPP crowd pulling rally is a shadow of what would really occur on the 7th of December 2008. It will be a technical knockout for the NDC and her cousins in PNC and CPP.
kOJO NPP crowd was genuine, the sign of the massive support base of the party and a matchless organization powers.
Crowds can be very deceptive. In a country where the least distance cost one ghana cedi or one dollar for that matter and waakye [ rice and beans ] is at least two cedis, what is crowd.Dont be deceived.Free bus with somemoney to boot why not.The reality on the ground is different. DO your own snap check and you willrealise there is a lot of disgruntled Ghanaians just waiting to exercise their franchise.
Well as the saying goes for every misfortune there is a blessing in disguise.I think that would ginger up NDC to put in more effort in their campaigns and try to win the floating voters that are left.
Note also that the other parties would do the same ,NPP feeling comfortable with their “SO CALLED” supporters would relax hence the big blow.
Where money flows people also flow towards that direction to get a glimpse and grab of it.
this people are realy diong a real propaganda work. let me tell u one truth kojo, the Unlawful premeditated killing of the late yaanaa will hunt the NPP for ever. No reasonable person in the north will ever vote for the NPP party. let them be deceiving them selves with their so call crowd. am an eye withness to what they call a large crowd in the north. let them keep on, and tgey will be surprised.
NOT AT ALL!!!!!!
the recent crowd that NPP is enjoying is a sign of the positive change that has come to Ghana. I believe that if you don’t believe in the idoelogy of a particular party, you dont even waste your precious time to go and listen to what its leaders are saying and hence for many GHANAIANS to have the time, energy and resources to go and listen to wisdom from the NPP Leaders shows how Ghanaians have accepted the NPP government and come December 7, they will do the same by voting the NPP into power. NANAOOOOO NANA……………………
When the NDC, went to Suame in Kumasi, they told us they had a HUGE crowd. Kokou Anyidoho said “this is a sure sign that the NDC is coming to power” (to quote him verbatim)
A couple of weeks later, NPP pulls arguably one of the biggest crowds every in Ghanaian politics at Kasoa in The Central Region (not even in their stronghold of Ashanti Region). Then listen to the NDC and specifically the same Anyidoho ” crowds dont mean anything much, they dont always transate into votes”.
AAAABAA.
Wont the NDC change for the better once and for all. These infantile contradictions and jealousy WILL NOT take them anywhere.
1. Their campaign is devoid of any of the astute, experienced politicians. You dont leave such an impt election to novices and naive people like Anyidoho, Adams, Fiifi Kwetey, Ayariga, etc,who think talking rubbish on radio stations and contradicting themselves will win electoral power. The same mistake the NPP made in 1996 and lost miserably.
2. When you over use propaganda, (an antiquated, communistic, lying method of going about campaigns) , you should do so very wisely. The NDC went on telling Ghanaians how the NPP has become unpopular because of “harsh conditions” etc.
This was when the NDC had decided to peak with their campaign. How sensible is it for an opposition party thats always complaining of lack of logistics to start ACTIVE CAMPAIGNING and reach their peak about 5 months to elections, whilst the rulling NPP has STRATEGICALLY decided to LAUNCH their campaign in AUGUST!!!!
Well, the NPP decides to test their support base in Central and Northern regions. The crowds are MASSIVE. Even surprising their own supporters.
Then the NDC propaganda of (NPP is now unpopular) backfires MASSIVELY. Even floating voters realise the NPP is now very strong especially in the rural areas.
NDC starts panicking. Without thinking they start insulting Ghanaians by alluding that even NDC members will follow their stomach (like their big men in Accra) to accept a pitance to attend NPP rallies.
A few lessons for the NDC, especially those in Accra and Kumasi, and talking day and night on radio:
a. When a rural dweller is made to go to hospital free , you dont know the impact it has on him, his family, neighbours etc.
b. When a poor rural family is giving 15 cedis everymonth by a govt as LEAP. you dont know the impact it has on their lives and allegiance.
c. When they have free education, and sometimes meals (note that many JSS students in the rural areas are 18 and above and can vote) you should not underestimate what it does to them.
You can sit in Accra and Kumasi etc and talk nonsense on radio everyday.
The NPP guys are very astute and experienced politicans. They thought through all these thoroughly.
Dont forget that the village in Tuobodom and the richest and most educated man in Accra have ONE VOTE EACH.
Continue fooling yourselves and using propaganda (the only party in Ghana with a propaganda/lies secretary) and you will cry in December.
There are many things you are doing wrong that I can enumerate here but wont waste my precious time on you guys.
hi kojo,de crowd is nothing but a deceit. it’s just telling us that npp is using state money to do campaign and nothing more, nothing less.
large crow will definately translet into vote came December 2008.
I would like to implore the Ghanaian media to be fair in their coverage of this year’s elections. It seems the NPP government has “bought” most of our journalists.
As regards large crowds translating into votes; I will say yes and no. Yes because if the crowds are genuine like what we saw when Obama visited Berlin recently and no like the one we saw at Kasoa where every potential running mate hired his/her group, gave them money, T-shirts and bussed them to the rally grounds.
if all the people who attended the npp rally are going to vote for them and those of us who could not make it to the place are also going to vote for the ndc, then the npp has already the impending elections big time.the johns are the best bet in dec
crowd or no crowd 7th december should be the final judge. no political party should be complacent. dont forget ghana is no different from all other countries.its only by the grace of God that we coexist peacefully.
the way we brutalise our armed robbers should tell everyone hour bloody ghana will be if there is any disorder. lets be careful. lets pray. CROWD SHOULD NOT BRING ALONG COMPLACENCY. DECEMBER 7TH MUST BE THE ONE AND ONLY JUDGE. GOD SAVE MOTHER GHANA.
Hell no, the crowd will never translate into vote, most people were there because they will get their ”chop money” for the week and a free ”afuom atadie” with akufo addo printed in it
surely the npp is going to win the elections -ONE TOUCH
Not all because if large crownd are easily translated into votes the NDC should have won the 2000 general elections straight away.
I was then in Koforidua where the last regional campaign of the party was held and conspiciously members were bused from various destinations to the venue after they have been promised with all sort of gifts for them to attend only for they to be left there after the rally.
Any party which seeks to win this years election must work very hard to achieve that otherwise activists of thiose party’s will sit down and weep bitting their fingers only trying to come out of the shock they will experience.
look man , ghana is hot and we are suffering god help us get rid of this wicked government. crouds will not help them
come to think of it what is the estimated number of people who were at the rally are they up one fifth of the voter population of sekondi takoradi? of course not and dont for get they came from all over the country courtesy of our money.
i prefer the npp to win than ndc cos i dont want rawlings he is the same as atta mills, if i was atta mills he shd formed his own party
Large crowd of the N.P.P will not translate into votes. If votes are determined by crowds the N.D.C would have won the 2000 elections
eventhough the kangaroo dance is attra cting more people the moving forward they are advocating is not realistic but ………..
