Will Bawumiah’s choice translate into votes for December polls?
August 15, 2008
Finally speculations about the Nana Addo running mate saga came to an end yesterday at the Alisa Hotel . The decision by New Patriotic Party’s National Executive Council made the announcement at midnight confirming The Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia as running mate to NPP flag-bearer, Nana Akufo-Addo for the December 7 elections.
Prior to Dr Bawumiah’s endorsement at midnight some party faithful expressed strong disapproval including some other Ghanaians who mostly preferred a female prospective vice president, Hajia Alima Mahama whose name as well as some others like I. C Quaye, Boniface, Dr Mohamed Ibn Chambas, Alhaji M.N.D Jawula, whose names popped up early on.
Some young people believe that Bawumia, Nana’s selection who is also a young man presupposes his concern for the Ghanaian youth who have been taken for granted by some other candidates.
Dr Bawumiah’s endorsement has been a surprise to some Ghanaians as his name was not put up initially; even on the democracy polls. Some on the other hand were not the least surprised as they suggested that his many contributions to the nation connotes his eligibility to be Nana’s running mate.
The 45 year old family man and economist after serving as the Head of the Monetary Policy and Financial Stability Department of the Bank went on to become Deputy Governor in 2006.
Will Bawumia choice as Nana’s running mate translate into votes come December?
What do you think?

Got something to say?

That is a good choice. I have always said that it is the empty barrel that makes the most noise. Bawumiah has been quiet and the others were just talking behind people here and there and that drove me crazy, i am happy now i have choice of party to vote for, earlier i was having an oscillated mind set.
Thanks.
Bawumia as Nana’s choice will somehow translate into insignificant vote for the npp, because 3 months to election is not enough for Bawumia to market himself for acceptance within his own party let alone the whole country. However , he’s a nice young man
i think the choice is the best one nana has made for the party. i have always prayed that they will choose a neutral person to come on, and thus exactly wat nana has done. i hope that Dr. Bawumiah will build his political carrier with dignity and faithful as he has always been.
I strongly believe this young man Bawumia would be a great asset politically and economical to both the NPP and the next Government. His youthfulness will attract more than 60% of the youth vote. As a youth himself, he is better placed to understand and identify with his contemporaries and easily seek their mandate. As a high profile Muslim (courtesy of his surname) he can at least secure some of the Moslem votes. Coming from the north and with a household surname, he is more poised to garner a lot of votes from the north. Married to the daughter of a top kingpin of the PNC, who is very popular in the north, he will at least split the votes of Alhaji Ramadan’s family and friends. Dr Bawumia’s youthfulness and resourcefulness is so appealing that he will sweep most of the floating voters to the NPP corner. NDC is deluding themselves into thinking Dr Bawumia is a lightweight. Some NDC people think three months is a short time for Bawumia to be marketed. What they are forgetting is that Dr Bawumia is a candidate of a huge party like NPP. The mentioning of his name last thursday as NPP running mate has already resonated in every home, hut, hamlet, village, town, city, district, region, school or offices in Ghana. Every body in Ghana at the moment has a photographic memory of him and people will just turn out in their thousands to meet him even if he campaigns alone across the country. Majority of Ghanaians are assimilating the fact that Bawumia is vice-president in waiting. I am 100% sure the Nana - Bawumia ticket will deal a virulent blow to the NDC. In any case Ghana on the whole is the real beneficiary to the Nana-Bawumia ticket.
I taught Nana Akuffo Addo said he was a man of his own word, and no one was going to control him.But what are we seeing,he was made mention of the fact that a woman vice-president would be his choice.I wonder why all of a sudden he nominated Bawumiah, whiles we heard of front runners such as Hajia Alima Mahama,Gladys Asmah and I.C Quaye.
I dont know where this people get their data from. I am a recent graduate from the University of Ghana business School and I can tell you that about 80% of my graduating want to establish their own business. For anyone to come on air and say graduates of today are not hardworking and Business minded is irresponsible to the extreme. Its time people stop singing this “half barked graduates” chorus and give us a chance to prove what we can do. I am honoured to have graduated with a group of sharp, hardworking and focused guys and I believe Kodjo also graduated with great people.
We are not trained to work for any one specific organisation. Its up to the hirer to tune the general training to his specific needs. If you can’t do that as a manager, then i believe you dont have to blame the poor green-horn.
Nana Akufo-Addo could not have made a better choice in the person of Dr. Bawumiah as his running mate for the December 07 general elections. Considering his experience as a deputy governor of bank of Ghana, and his teaching experience not forgetting his track record at the world bank. Ghana indeed is blessed to have such a dynamic young man to partner Nana Akufo-Addo, an astute politician to take us to the promise land. Ghanaians should first of all be thankful to God almighty, Nana Akufo-Addo and the leadership of the NPP for giving us such a person to be the vice president of Ghana at this crucial time of oil find. Dr. Bawumia is very young and this goes a long way to prove the confidence Nana has in the capabilities and abilities of the youth. Indeed Nana did not only pay a lip service in his conviction of his believe in Ghana and the youth. He has really demonstrated it. Dr. Bawumia’s choice will not only translate into votes but also ensure a comprehensive win for Nana and the NPP come December 7. I have heard people comparing Mr John Dramani Mahama the NDC running mate and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia with some arguing that the former is better than the latter and that it will reflect in the Dec 7 elections.I believe Both Mr. Mahama and Dr. Bawumia are two different personalities and are both masters of their own world. What I do not know is, if whether Mr. Mahama will attract more votes than Dr. Bawumia. But what I do know for sure is that Dr. Bawumia’s choice is going to consolidate Nana’s win and it will be decisive, comprehensive and massive. For sure Prof. Atta Mills will retire after elections 2008 and perhaps Hon. John Dramani Mahama will go on premature retirement will since there will be no place for him in parliament. IT”S BAWUMANIA, IT”S NAA BAWUMIAH NA VICTORY NA VICE PRESIDENT. With Bawumiah’s young wife as second lady and himself as vice president, the future of the youth of this dear country is indeed secured.
i strongly believe the choice of Dr. Bawumia, is one great asset the NPP has achieved. many are those pundits who think otherwise, we must however consider that a though the balot paper features only the images of the presidential candidates, it is worth noting that behing every successful manager is a resourceful assistant. initially when the names of “likely candidates” were popping up, one only wondered what would become of the party if any of those was chosen. he most likely result would have been a major crack in the party on personality lines. fortunately the neutral face chosen is all the best for the party. the choice brings on a youthful appeal and an individual best positioned to give of his best to the presidency in the most likely event of an NPP victory. Yes Doctor B. is young, and that rather presents a better presidency ticket bearing in mind that the world now as modern as it is, thrives on youthful ideas, and not on antiquated ideas and styles of governance which rather ensures that the clock of development ticks twice before we move once.
if we chose a man as runnning mate, its definitely not too late for a female to broker power. the chief Justice is a female and hopefully if the cards are played well, nothing can stop us from having the first woman speaker of parliament in NANA’s presidency.
Dr. Bawumiah will add more votes to the NPP .He is a nice gentleman ,intelligent hardworking and very committed. With these qualities,he will attract a lot of floatig voters.
I strongly believe without any doubt that the choice of Dr. Bawumiah by Nana Akufo-Addo as running mate is the best thing that has happened to NPP in particular and Ghana as a whole. The man is young , full of energy and very intelligent, coupled with the fact that he will serve as a role model for the youth of this country. He is the best.
Bawomia is the right man to join the Party
well to me Bawumia is a fine choice to partner Nana.but my worry is that it seems npp is using muslims for their selfish gains.we cannot continue to play second fidle to others and at the end our people will go and sleep at mosquito camps at the airport .hajj crisis here and there.
i think Ghana needs young people who understand the plight of Ghanaian youth in this 21st centary as compared to the economic freedom and social life the youth of the outside world enjoy. the old politics which has been played by our old politicians who don’t have sense of humour, but only thinking about what can fill thier pockets alone should be a thing of the past. we need young, energetic, visionry people like John F kennedy of US to move the country to a different level in terms of economic freedom and job creation. because the image of Ghana on the international scene has been faded completely as if we were the last country to gain independence in Africa. all boils down to the sort of leaders we have. small country with all minerial resources but still poor. Bawumiah all the way.
though bawumia wud give a lot of votes to npp is not the case. ndc, learn to stay in opposition 4 long. u are not the vast majority of ghanaians. why are you not in power. atta wud never become president except thru a coup .
Good Morning Kojo. If you hire a mason to build a house, he began the foundation and laying of blocks. A small wind blew over the work and it went down one touch. You sacked this mason. A new Mason is given same work he Properly Constructed the foundation and laying of blocks. When the building is almost done this Old Mason show up for same work he Failed to do. Kojo If you are the owner what would you do to this Old mason?
I dont he will.he is not known to the majority of ghanaians
I was undecided on Akofo Addo but his choice of Bawumia has forced me to believe what he says about his dreams for Ghana. I think the Guy knows what he is talking bout. But I am still worried about his morality.
whether Bawumiah’s selection is significant or not, NPP will lose the election come dec 2008.
HI I DO NOT THINK BAWUMIAH IS THE MATTER CONCERN . IT HAVE TO DO WITH THE N.P.P. PARTY . I HOPE THIS YEAR ELECTION IS NOT FOR THE PARTY. THE PARTY MEMBERS OR THE OLD FOLKS WHO LIED TO US WITH SWEET PROMISES ARE STILL THERE AND NOT ABLE TO ACHIVE WHAT THEY PROMISE US IS WHAT IS GOING TO LET THEM DOWN.
HI KOJO, YOU ARE DOING VERY GOOD WITH THE MORNING SHOW, KEEP IT UP. THANKS FOR BRINGING KSM ON THE SHOW YESTERDAY, THAT’S FINE. BUT I WAS NOT CLEAR WITH JORIS WARTEMBERG WITH HIS SCIENCE OR WHAT? THE WORLD OR TIME TO STAND STILL ON 21st DEC 2012? PLS. GET HIM BACK TO MAKE HIMSELF CLEAR. DON’T FORGET THE WHOLE WORLD IS ALERT. WE SHOULD’NT TAKE THIS AS A JOKE. I HEARD HIM ON KWEKU ONE ON ONE WITH THE SAME STORY. SO PLS. LET’S FIND OUT THE TRUTH.
i agree that npp will win this coming election 2008
