Hello Kojo
I have no doubt in my mind that you, re doing well. You’ve got to be at your optimal best the way you do it. I have a lot of good things to say about you but I will save them for later as i am almost sure you will not be interested in that because it will be for the umpteenth time. That said i will address what will rather be important to you- the election and the intransigence of the New Patriotic Party. I am not sure how patriotic -by the way.
It is important for me to say where i belong to so nobody misconstrues my opinions. I did not vote in the elections because i don’t belong to any political party. The reason is quite simple. I have not heard of any political party that has any credible solution to the three things i consider essential- food & security, transportation and accommodation. So for me anybody who came to power was okay so long as there is peace. I have come to understand that to be happy you’ve got to strive for yourself; your success is in your own hands and not in an empty hand of a politician.
I cannot believe the NNP were capable of subjecting Ghanaians to such trauma and apprehension by this desperate attempt to secure power. From day one in most of my conversations with friends and family i argued that the reason this election has assumed a do or die character was two, one for each. The NDC taught their party will die if they did not win power for this third time and the NPP taught they will be perused with corruption charges and chased to jail should they allow the NDC to assume the reins of government. But as we will find out later they are both wrong. NDC wasn’t going to die and NPP will not be pursued. I will proffer no proofs if you ask me.
You see when everything points out of favour for you so shall they be. When you fight a good fight and you lose a good loss you simply acknowledge your adversary and wish him good luck more especially when the common goal was and is to better the lot of a country.
I am monumentally astonished, that for the love of the country Nana Akuffo Addo has not called Prof. Atta Mills to concede so that Ghanaians and Democracy will be the victors. There was always going to be a winner and a loser when the game begun so why do we have a situation where it now appears that the NPP had only one thing in mind-win.
Let me hazard a guess. The NPP has invested too much into this election-time, energy and especially money. I spoke to one NPP supporter who said businesses are going to collapse if Nana Akuffo Addo does not win. The reason is, too many put their moneys behind NPP in the hope of recouping far in excess when they win and we are talking biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig time money. But hey, the NDC also invested money and for that matter GCPP, CPP, PNC and the rest of them. However each one of them while they spent money also knew of the risk of losing.
Kojo, consider Dr Arthur Kennedy’s and the NPP’s reason for not going to Tain-that the place was insecure and that even President Kuffour could not travel to Tain because the prevailing conditions were not conducive for his safety as they were not conducive for a free and fair election for their NPP supporters . It is instructive to note that the NPP had agreed to contest the election at Tain when Dr Kojo Afari Gyan first announced it. The turnaround is very suspicious. A government in power is now accusing opposition as rigging an election. You know what that means? The government did not resource the EC properly and adequately and it has lost control of the country’s security.
I ask myself some simple questions. Is President Kuffour not the commander in chief of the armed forces of Ghana? Is his brother not the Interior Minister? If our security forces cannot make Tain, a small portion of Ghana safe and secure how were we ever confident that they would be able to ensure same when the whole nation turned out to vote. NPP, Nana Addo Dankwa Akkuffo Addo, honourably accept defeat.
Thank you, Kojo.
Regards
jimdim
