What are your fondest memories about Prez. Kufuor’s legacy and your expectations of the Mills administration?

January 7, 2009

Today president elect John Evans Atta Mills will be inaugurated as the president of the 4th republic of Ghana. Today also we are introduced to the 1st session of the 5th parliament of the 4th republic. Speaker of parliament Justice Bamford Addo was ushered into office today as well deputy speakers.

As a result some issues have come up about ministers serving as MPs concurrently, the number of government officials and it impact on the efficiency of government

A new parliament is being introduced to Ghana and this comes with a lot of expectations for the new government-Mills administration and some reflections on the legacy of soon to be former prez. Kufuor.

What do you expect for the incoming Mills administration and while you are that what are some fondest memories about prez. Kufuor’s legacy?

Tell me what you think.

My fondest memories about prez Kofuor’s legaacy are his humility, gentleness, soft spoken and above all his sense of judgement. I love him and wish nana would learn from him. Ghanaians would serve you as you served Ghanaians, kudos.

    Kojo

The election of the NPP in 2000 was as necessary and poignant as the election of the NDC in 2009! ‘Welldone’ to the outgoing Kufuor Administration and ‘welcome’ to the Atta Mills Administration.

my fondest memory of President Kuffuor will be the many roads that sprang up during his rule especially the Aburi road, the NHIS and the country going HIPIC with which came many developments. Also the school feeding program. I recall some children saying the food is “one way”….or Kufuor has granted us with rice and chicken today.
with President Atta Mills,i will expect an improvement on president Kuffuor’s achievements even as he embarks on his own development programs……….especially alleviating poverty.

    KOJO,

MY FONDEST MEMORY OF PREZ KUFUOR WILL BE THE NUMEROUS SOCIAL INTERVENTIONS HE INTRODUCED AS PREZ OF GHANA: NATIONAL HEALTH INSURANCE SCHEME (INCLUDING THE FREE MATERNAL HEALTH CARE), SCHOOL FEEDING PROGRAM, REVITALISATION OF PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION AMONG SEVERAL OTHERS TOO NUMEROUS TO RECOUNT. THIS IS ESPECIALLY INTRIGUING CONSIDERING THE POLITICAL IDEOLOGY OF THE NPP.

THE DIGNITY PREZ KUFUOR BROUGH TO THE PRESIDENCY CAN ALSO NOT BE FORGOTTEN.

ONE CAN ALSO NOT FORGET THE DIFFICULT (OR CALL IT “POLITICALLY UNWISE”), BUT NECESSARY DECISIONS TAKEN BY PREZ KUFUOR. THE DECSION TO GO HIPC, LIBERALIZING THE PETROLEUM SECTOR SO THAT PRICES OF PETROLEUM PRODUCTS ARE DETERMINED BY MARKET FORCES ETC.

MY EXPECTATIONS OF PROF MILLS; DELIVER ON HIS CAMPAIGN PROMISES NOTABLE AMONG THEM BEING:
    1. REDUCING THE PRICES OF PETROLEUM PRODUCTS WITHIN 100 DAYS AFTER ASSUMING OFFICE.
    2. ENSURE THAT PREMIUM FOR THE NATIONAL HEALTH INSURANCE SCHEME IS PAID ONLY ONCE FOR A LIFETIME.

I WISH PROF MILLS WELL AS OUR “NEW PRESIDENT”.

  14. ricky from Osu, Accara on January 8th, 2009 9:36 am

my fondest memory of kuffuor were the purchase of hotel de wawaa, the insult to ghanaians of being lazy when they complain of not having money, the press comference he held in twi, jailing and unconditional pardon of tsatsu tsikata, the energy crisis among others.

As for Prez Mills, i would like him to create more jobs, clear the excessive filts on our streets, and be very firm. I know for sure that he will be successful in the name of Jesus. GOD BLESS HIM TO DELIVER.

  15. Augustina on January 8th, 2009 10:17 am

my fondest memory of prez kuffour is the twins he fathered with Gizelle Yajzie

  16. Julius on January 8th, 2009 12:10 pm

well i think Prez Kuffour did well. You know in life you dont necessarily have to be a saint but have the attitude to be one. There are many minuses about him but he did some few things to balance the equation. I think what worked for him is his public image - the way he prersents himself in public.
He has done his part but his last minute moves were worrying and indicates that he has something to hide

  17. charles ramzy on January 8th, 2009 12:46 pm

my fondest memories of prez KUFFOUR are
when he said corruption is everywhere and is old as his
corruption startard way back from adams and eves regime
when he always said in my govnerment.
i think prez KUFFOUR on a whole did very well and i praise him for that
my expectation of prez MILLS government is for him just to deliver on his promise,to unit the country and not to play the blame game.
i want prez MILLS to know that voterains wont forgive him if he do not do anything for them and i promise him we will swap nex time.
i wish him all the best and i pray that GOD guide and give him wisdom in the performance of his duties

  18. amos jah on January 8th, 2009 4:14 pm

    Kojo,
My fondest memories of Prez.Kuffuor will be his attitude towards both infrasturctural developments in the country and his social interventions. The major infrasturctural ones include the four maginificent stadia in the country as well as the on-going one at cape coast, the Bui Dam,Acc-Cape Coast Rd,Tetteh Quarshie roundabout. The social interventions include the LEAP,NHIS,GSFP,Capital Grant,MASLOC among others.
I’ll also remember him for his pronouncements on the Rojo Mettle and his cocaine friends’ case as well as his response to the NDC on the energy crisis period.God bless him wherever he goes.

  19. kwaku Affum on January 9th, 2009 6:01 am

for president K4 i will remember him for this statement he made in 2001 ‘the economy has improve bcos Gari price has gone done’ but for President mills he must look at the Education System in Ghana Seriously.

  20. Prince k (USA) on January 9th, 2009 7:19 am

I expect Mills to listen to voice of God (the Ghanaian) on the state of the economy instead of that of World bank. Even the wall street gods failed. for us the youth, more jobs,no cocaine, affordable housing, peace & security, and absolute transparency.

  21. FK OCLOO on January 9th, 2009 7:33 am

i would remember Kufour for obtaining the name Kufour gallon. The water system got worse.

  22. Yorm on January 9th, 2009 10:52 am

I will always remember former Prez Kufuor for his calmness and soft-spokeness even though he was firm. he often carried himself about very well and i think Nana A.D.A-Addo should learn from him. This attitude endeared him to a lot of people even in the oposition. But i also will remember him for not keeping touch with the people in the country - always travelling around the world - and as if to add insult to injury, mistakenly referred to the hardworking and struggling Ghanaian as lazy. That was so unfair! …but to err is human so we can say that was a slip of his mind..

Just as we did in Y2000, last year we prayed earnestly to God again for the right person to be elected and so i believe Atta Mills has truly been chosen by God to lead this nation. I will not stop praying for Mills to continue to seek God’s guidance in all he does and I’m sure Ghana will become a better one for us all. Many fear change of govt because it usually comes with discontinuation of some good policies - and so I am hoping and praying that Mills will prove all wrong and continue with whatever good policies the Kufuor-led govt introduced and then also introduce new and better ones.

God bless our nation Ghana and help us to build a strong nation for our children.

    12. the president whose era ghana became the worlds number two guinea worm country in the world.
    13. the president who left the biggest debt after ghana has been granted debt relief.
    14. the president who assumed office with ghana as a unified state and left it as a divided country.
    15. the president who practiced political witch hunting and still was able to achieve nothing.
    16. the president who did not understand why he went to oxford but a mere FLT.LT become president before him.
    17. the president under whose tenure the country turned into a disco with lights on and off every 20 minutes.
    18. the president under whose tenure the following terms came to being
    {a} job for the boys
{b} waawaaa, for any corrupt act

    19. the president under whose watch water crises was escalated beyond control.
    20. the president whose wife was useless…
    21. the president who left office with no respect from the citizenry, his party or even his colleagues.

  25. Kofi Mensah on January 10th, 2009 6:15 pm

My fondest memory of Kufour admin are NHIS, Capital Venture, Kufour Buses, Presidential Special Initiatives, Meet the Press forum, HIPIC, CAN2008 and the stadia, free care for pregnant women…etc. Its really a tall order and a challenge to Prof. He can’t allow these to fail and again he has to come out with his own.
We thank God for Kufour and Mills

my fondest memories of KUFFOUR is THE famous speech of WAWAWA. GOD bless GHANA and her selfish LEADERS.

  27. Collins on January 12th, 2009 5:17 am

My fondest memory of Kufour is the single salary structure that is to be implemented this year from Jan. and i expect president Mills to make sure that this structure takes immediate effect to bring hope to ghanaian workers

  28. PAUL-DOE ABOTSI on January 12th, 2009 9:04 am

    1) I will remember former Prez Kufour for showing some interest in Education but discriminatory and wicked in handling teachers salary problems. I think he was a very controversial and unpredictable man.
2)The President who awarded IGP at the time the Police image is down on the way parcels of cocaine under investigation got missing from the vaults of the Police.
3)The President whose zero tolerance remained on the drawing board.
    4) The President who was not interested in the facts of a case but technicalities of the law to reinstate a favourite minister.
    5) The President who will not honour coup makers in his country but honour coup makers in another country.
    6) The President who retrieved and gave out Ghana Telecom from and to foreigners at will.
    7) The President who did not interfered in the judiciary but could reconstitute the number of judges in the supreme court to overturn judgements not in his interest.
    8) The President who used his prerogative to pardon those considered to be unpardonables by his own party men.
    9) The President who claims to be interested in accountability but his own party chairman claimed kick backs to the party was not accounted for.
    10) The President who focussed to get oil because it is only his party was the only party destined to get oil for Ghana.
A CONTROVERSIAL PRESIDENT HE WAS INDEED.

  29. okoson on January 12th, 2009 3:33 pm

i would remember him as a prez who globetrots a lot and
as a prez who engineered the imprisonment of an innocent man tsatsu tsikata.
as a prez who turns a blind eye to meaningful contributions tsatsu made in GNPC and more importantly toward the discovery of oil in the country.most shockingly and shamefully, the prez mounted the political campaign platform to vilify and demonize the innocent man when he was languishing in prison for no fault of him. thanks to some honest people like Sam Jonah who acknowledged the man’s contributions to the oil find in the country. rather, the man deserves to be hailed high heaven! long live tastsu tsikata, long live ghana.

JAK did very well based on projects they wre able to execute. Nobody can take this away from them. Npp will have been able to win the election if they filled in a good candidate.

But in all I think Ghanaian have a very strategic Choice. JAK did what napolion can’t do, But prof Mill will do what Napolion can’t attempt not to take of doing.

I wish NDC and proff. good lack in all their dealing, Ghanaian will always be behind you.

ma fondest memories of our ex prez.
the hotel de waawaa ,it’s nice and good for our country but is the current location good or right to be sited there .the presidential palace is as well nice but the money involve in putting up that structure can be use to do something els. let us look at something , our current prezdo. atta mills has two options either the castle and the palace in question the castle was renovated to meet state of the art specifications, upon arrival of our ex prezdo.kufour his personal house was renovated to serve same purpose.the changing of our old currency to the new Ghana Cedi’s which i think we should sometimes consult the laws of wants and needs before some concrete decisions are taking. 4rm mike .Air port

    God help cpp.

If what I heard from Dr Osafo on the newsfile is anything to go by,then I`ve few questions for Ivor Greenstreet,Nylander,Abu sakara and the rest.?

Where is cpp`s neutrality, have you guys sat down to find out what actually happened in the just ended elections that our party perform poorly, have you thought about samia Nkrumah and her stand of been a neutral in parliament?

What at all is wrong with people who proclaim to be nkrumahist? I feel sad and betrayed as a stauned follower of nkrumah by today`s stomach politicians. It`s unfortunate that there`re people out there whose sole aim is to see cpp like this year in and year out,but with God a proper nkrumah will emerge to lead us one day.

Now I hear that prof.Akosa is going round the country soliciting for support in 2012 after refusing to support nduom. It`s my prayer that all these people leave the seen for a new person to take us through our battles, because even if akosa wins in 2012 –Nduom and his supporters will never support him and in the end we`ll perform poorly again.

If this information is true, then I don`t expect the current excutives to be there after 2012.

    Long live cpp
    long live Ghana

i watched an Obama interview yesterday on cnn, and when asked abt Bush and what he thinks abt him, he said Bush is a good guy who made some bad choices. can’t ghanaian politicians learn anything from what is going on in the US. if Bawumia is well qualified for the job and he is doing it perfectly, then y should he resign. is the ndc looking for loyal incompetent people or well qualified hard working people. i think this government should make good choices when assign roles.

i could not believe my ears the way frank agyekum is rationalizing the lavish& mouth-watering ex-gratia package of ex-presidents. such rationalization is an insult to the sensibilities of Ghanaians.we will move heaven and earth to kick against this day light robbery.so after ruling this country for eight years and amassing so much wealth, frank and his people want to rip us of our last breath.
