Does it look like we’ve learnt lessons from our electoral past or have we gone to bed about it?

February 18, 2009

Prior to the December 2008 polls, many raised concerns about risks Ghana faced as a result of slips in the electoral Process.

Allegations of a bloated register, suspicions of Police complicity with the then ruling NPP to rig the elections, Antagonism of Political opponents and unchecked Political violence threatened Ghana’s peace and fragile democracy.

Promises were made that many of these issues would necessarily addressed by the appropriate authorities. Almost two months into the new administration it remains to be seen and heard, what is being done about these issues.

Already however  Polarisation of of the Political sphere is deapening, while Political violence continues…….

Meanwhile events that characterised the transition of 2001 continue to repeat themselves….Car snatching reports, ex-gratia debates and allegations of Political persecution of opponents have already started. The former administration has also announced its decision to no longer corporate with the new administration to conclude the transition, sighting bad faith shown by the new administration.

Does it look like we have learnt any lessons from the events of our recent Political history?

Kojo, It’s really shameful we keep making the same mistakes anytime there is a new government. In my opinion, there should statutory institutions that will handle issues such as Transition, Swearing of President etc so that such things are not politicised. In the end, Presidential Assets, the Economy and the rest does not belong to a particular party even if that Party stays in power for 5 consecutive terms. I hope we learn. Thank you.

KOJO, I KEEP THINKING IF THE PRESENT GOVERNMENT IS SERIOUS ABOUT THE FACT THAT THEY WILL REVERSE THE 4 YEARS IN SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL BACK TO THREE YEARS . I AM A STUDENT IN ONE OF THE GOV’T SCHOOL ( SENIOR HIGH ) AND JI THINK THE 4 YEARS WOULDN’T HELP THIS IS BECAUSE AFTER JHS ,I KNOW HOW TO WRITE AND READ SO I CAN DECIDE NOT GO TO SCHOOL AT ALL . I WILL SUGGEST THA T THE PRESENT GOV’T SHOULD RATHER ON THE BRIGTHER SIDE OF LIFE INCREASE THE NUMBER OF YEARS IN THE JJHS RATNHER THAN SHS. I HOPE THE PTRESENT GOV’T HAVEN’T FORGOTTEN THAT IT WAS ONE THEIR POLITICAL ” WORDS FOR THE PEOPLE OF GHANA ” .AM PERSONALLY LOOKING FORWARD FOR THE ANNOUNCEMENT.THANK AND GOD BLESS U KOJO

Got something to say?
