Road Fund owes 105 million Ghana cedis?

August 4, 2009

Hi, my name again is Evans Mensah, sit-in host of the Super Morning Show. Did you hear the Roads and Highways minister on the Super Morning Show this morning?

I was startled by the revelations on the Road Fund. He said the NPP mortgaged the road fund for a loan from the Social Security and National Insurance Trust or SSNIT. A loan of 83 million Ghana cedis.

The fund is in debt to the tune of 105 million Ghana cedis. Again he says the debt had accrued because the NPP government failed to spend within its limits.

Because of the debt, the minister said they are unable to construct many new roads and repair old ones?

We will soon hear what officials of the past administration have to say about the accusations.

But I want to hear what you make of the debt situation of the road fund.

Then there is the Asamoah Boateng case. Asamoah Boateng again!!! I loved the banter between the man and the deputy Information Minister, James Agyenim Boating.

So he has again been prevented from leaving the country and he is challenging the authority of state to stop him without a warrant?

He might just have a point there but can he not wait for the security agencies to finish their investigations before stepping out?

I am fortunately not a lawyer, so I cannot say for certain who was wrong. But what do you think?

hello evans. I don’t know if this is the correct portal for this issue but which ever way it is all in the name of mother ghana.

EVANS MY ISSUE IS ON ‘OPPORTUNITY HOARDING IN GHANA’

IT IS ABOUT TIME WE MADE PEOPLE ACOUNTABLE FOR WHAT THEY ARE PAID FOR. LET’S CAST OUR MINDS BACK TO YESTERDAY ABOUT THE INCIDENT OF THE PREGNANT WOMAN WHO DIED AT THE LA CLINIC.HAVE YOU SEEN THAT SINCE JOY FM INTERVENED THE ISSUE HAS BEEN TAKEN MORE SERIOUSLY.

I AM PLEADING WITH YOUR STATION THAT THEY GO TO THE PENSIONS COMPUTATION OFFICE FOR THOSE UNDER CAP 30.EVANS IT IS SAD. PEOPLES’ WIDOWS’ AND CHILD PENSIONS ARE HOARDED FOR YEARS DENYING CHILDREN AND MOTHERS ESPECIALLY OF THE DECEASED THE OPPORTUNITY TO ACCESS EDUCATION , HEALTHCARE AND OTHER FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS.

THIS OFFICE IS JUST OPPOSITE THE NOVOTEL HOTEL.WHEN YOU CONTACT THE CTO(HEAD) ALL HE CAN SAY IS THEY ARE WORKING ON IT. EVANS PLEASE ASK HIM HOW MANY YEARS THEY TAKE TO PROCESS THESE MONIES.

THEY FRUSTRATE PEOPLE AND IN THE END CHANNEL THE MONIES INTO THEIR OWN ACCOUNTS.LET YOUR TEAM GO THERE AND CHECK THE NUMBER OF SUCH PEOPLE IN WAITING.SOME EVEN DO NOT KNOW AND THEIR MONIES ARE CHANNELED INTO PERSONAL ACCOUNTS.

EVANS, DR. ATUGUBAH SAID THESE ACTS ARE CRIMINAL. PLEASE YOU AND YOUR TEAM SHOULD HELP THE WEAK AND POOR TO ACCESS WHAT IS DUE THEM AT THE TIME THEY NEED THEM THE MOST IF YOU ALL LOVE MOTHER GHANA.

I BELIEVE IN YOU AND YOUR STATION.

yes evans richard is right it is very true.those people at the computation office for cap 30 if you don’t give money they stall the process and sometimes hide your files.they are not receptive and in fact evans very frustrating.it took us 7good years for my mom to get hers.they are very wicked.

please let us bring them under the spot light to save our children from going through such in future.

joy fm take it up.we know you can do it

    Evans,
I agree completely with Ato K. Dadzie on his opinions on why Asamoah Boateng deperately wants to travel. Is he under threat in this country or what?
If there is some form of investigation going on, he should just provide what information they need and wait to get clearance, then there will be no “harassment”.
and then in my opinion, the man is just paying for all those years of rude abuse of power and position. He should wait, more is coming. Someone tell him the whatever goes round, comes round, just like the BOOMERANG. lol

KOJO IN RECENT TIMES THE NAME GHANA AS WE ALL KNOW TO BE THE GATE WAY HAS TOTALLY CHANGE .
OUR PRESENT GOVERNMENT HAS DONE NOTHING GOOD BUT RATHER CAUSE MORE HARM TO THE PEOPLE OF THIS PEACEFUL COUNTRY.
    a) there is increase on the price of fuel
    b) there is shortage of premix fuel
    c) prices of commodities are really high
    d) contract killing and armed robbery are on the rise
    e) the number of years at the senior high school has been changed to three.
f} the unemployment rate has totally risen
    g) the dollar has totally risen against the cedi
    h) inflation above 12%
BEFORE THE ATTA MILLS ASSUMED OFFICE AS THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF GHANA A, WE ARE HAPPILY ENJOYING THE LITTLE THAT WE HAD. NOW THE ECONOMY IS SO POOR AND BAD THAT THE AVERAGE INCOME EARNER CAN’T LIVE ON THREE SQUARE MEAL.
THE HARDSHIP IS TOO MUCH , WE NEEDED A CHANGE BUT NOT BAD CHANGE AGYA ATTA,
THE BEST THIS GOVERNMENT CAN DO IS TO SET UP COMMITTEE TO INVESTIGATE CASES AND CEASE PROPERTIES OF EX MINISTERS RATHER TO SIT DOWN AND PUT BETTER POLICIES WHICH EVERY GHANAIAN ENJOY.
WE ENOUGH RESOURCES BUT AMID THIS PLENTY WE STILL CRY EVERY DAY.

ROAD FUND AND OTHER FUNDS ESTABLISHED BY LAW

The road fund by its funding process should most of the time be in surplus fund and the sources of funds are from the sale of Petroleum products (for Super and Diesel ) of .05 ghana pesewas per litre or .23 ghana pesewas per gallon and Tolls paid at tolling booths on the highways. If even govt borrowed from SSNIT the terms of Loan for road project is known this should be distinct from the Road Fund. The terms of the SSNIT Loan might require repayments of some sought however to offset Loan Amounts against a fund at a particular point in time serve no good purpose.

Another point Kojo which I would like you to follow-up is Insurance Fund set-up under the Insurance Law This require that a percentage of the amount paid by Vehicle owner for annual renewal insurance go this fund
Kindly check from National Insurance Commission.

Another issue I want you look at :SSNIT .The statements provided to employees for their contributions for deduction capture only actual contribution received.Compare this to a saving account if such amount is held by a bank.Thinking allowed are SSNIT keeping amounts in vaults(cynical). What prevent them showing how much they earning from interest on this contributions.Master it would create the needed confidence from the contributing public

I’m just looking foward to the day when non partisans like me will stop about politicians. In my opinion i think politics is a game n only the players; govt n opposition understand the rules of kick backs, corruption, n what ve you. We re just innocent spectators whose emotions re used. In this game it seems there is no winner or looser but they make it appear like one wins n other looses. Let’s us watch the game emotionlessly n we shall see how funny the game is

Got something to say?
